Positive ‘Take Aways’ from Food Hygiene Course

Jigsaw Homes is continuing work to help volunteers gain qualifications which support their activities.

Recently, the Neighbourhood Engagement teams in Tameside and the Midlands ran courses on food hygiene.

Neighbourhood Engagement officer John McGlynn was invited to deliver a Food Safety Level 2 course for volunteers from Dipak Dristi Community Organisation based at Broadoak Community Centre in Ashton.

The course enabled the 12 volunteers who took part to learn how to safely store, handle food and prepare meals for around 50 residents who attend weekly activities including arts and crafts, music, dance, games and yoga to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Nine people also took the same course at Carlton Baptist Church in Nottingham, organised by officer Martin Curtis.

Dipak Dristi volunteer Damyanti Patel said: “Being able to understand the importance of correct food handling and meal preparation means we can continue our voluntary work safely and prepare meals to help people in need every week.
