Residents Get Crafty at Central Community Garden

Jigsaw residents enjoyed a summer half-term community workshop at the Central Community Garden in Dukinfield with a range of activities.

Over 40 families attended the workshop last week, which was organised by the Neighbourhood Engagement Team and was the first community event to take place at the community garden since 2020.

They were joined by volunteers from Central Community Garden, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Plunge Boom Theatre Group, Dukinfield Pantry and Morrisons Supermarket who all chipped in to host the fun-filled workshop.

As well as a planting workshop, residents also took part in a craft workshop delivered by the Royal Exchange Theatre and designed and painted their own bird boxes.

Two performance artists from Plunge Boom performed an interactive performance piece called Vegetable Nannies and The Dukinfield Pantry and Morrisons both donated refreshments and hampers which were used in a raffle and won by three families.

John McGlynn, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, said: “It was a great day for everyone from the community to join together once again and have some fun and laughter.  The turnout was amazing and the families who took part are looking forward to planning more social events and activities in the coming months.
