Across our communities, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team have organised a wide range of fun family activities for our residents to enjoy over the school summer holidays.
Over 1000 residents attended the St Peter’s Community Gathering Family Fun Day in Oxford Park, Ashton, which was part funded by Jigsaw Homes and organised by Officer Minaz Aslam.
Families enjoyed a range of activities including face and henna painting, bouncy castles, arts and crafts activities with LEAP Children’s and Family Centre, performances from a live singer and free food and refreshments.
Civic Mayor Councillor Betty Affleck, Deputy Mayor Councillor Shibley Alam and Councillor Joyce Bowerman also attended the event, visited different stalls and met with residents.
At Holy Trinity Primary School in Ashton, Minaz also partnered up with the Holy Trinity Community Centre to hold a sports day for local children. Around 15 children took part on the day which was facilitated by PE teacher Mr Ali and our team provided a tasty lunch of pizza, chips and ice cream.
Officer Martin Curtis organised a family play event at St Pauls Church in Daybrook, Nottingham and 93 residents and children attended and enjoyed a range of activities including parachute games, a puppet show and arts and crafts.
Residents also took part in family planting sessions at the Netherfield Family Hub with the crop club and learned how to grow various herbs and vegetables from seeds and even took home their own decorated pots.
In Crumpsall, Officer Gemma Batchelor teamed up with charity Rainbow Surprise to provide arts and crafts and sports activities at Crumpsall Lane Primary School for local children.
At the Dukinfield Hub, families attended a ‘Summer Kids Day’ organised by Officer John McGlynn, volunteers from The People’s Community Dukinfield, artist Pheobe Foxtrot and photographer Rebecca Lattin.
Activities included arts and crafts, a hanging basket workshop, a plant sale, cyanotype photography, a raffle, a buffet and adopt a teddy.
In Miles Platting, Officer Vikki Barry arranged several summer fun day sessions with football, multi-sports, dance and crafts activities taking place across different days.
The free sessions run every week in August and even include a tasty lunch for residents to tuck into.
Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood team also organised a bike kitchen at the Hazelhurst Homes and Community Hub for families to repair their bikes in time for the summer holidays. Manchester Bike Kitchen helped to repair punctures, check the brakes, replace broken parts, repair bike chains, and give our residents safety talks when using their bikes.
