Tameside Community Clean Up

The Jigsaw Homes Neighbourhood Engagement team teamed up with Greater Manchester Police to take part in a community clean up in Ashton Central.

Starting at Millennium Green and moving towards West Ashton, the team targeted areas that have become a hotspot for fly-tipping and helped to get rid of piles of rubbish to improve the surrounding environment.

They were all joined by Nigel Harrop of Cleancare,  Tameside Council, Holy Trinity Community Centre, Holy Trinity Primary School, Regenda and Lindley Education Trust to take part in the cleanup.

Each helped to fill 50 bin bags with rubbish that littered the streets and Cleancare also managed to fill two vans with items that had been fly-tipped.

Minaz Aslam, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer who attended the cleanup, said “This was a fine example of great partnership work and a successful community clean up with a great turnout. It was a welcomed opportunity to clean up the areas.

The Neighbourhood Safety Team has also been working hard to keep residents’ homes clean and tidy.

One property in Tameside had been neglected over time and left in a terrible condition with piles of rubbish filling the house.

As the resident was not clearing up the property, Neighbourhood Safety Officer Daniel Ashton obtained an injunction while also providing support to the resident to encourage him to clean up.

After cleaning the property, the resident thanked the team and was grateful for the intervention and support of the Neighbourhood Safety Team.
