Last week a group of young adults from the Prince’s Trust visited Acresfield Community Garden in Newton. They decided to pay the garden a visit after hearing about their great community work. This work involves local volunteers participating with schools and residents to engage them with the garden.
A prime example of their community work involved 60 children from Bradley Green Primary School. Recently, our Neighbourhoods team, the children and their teachers visited the garden to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables. Alongside this, the children learned the importance of a balanced diet and the value a community garden has.
The Prince’s Trust are looking for a small project to do over a 6 week period and also visited other projects on the day. Once the group have made a decision about the project they choose to support, they will inform the project coordinators. Team members will firstly fund raise to purchase tools and equipment for their chosen project. They will then spend a few weeks working for and supporting the project.

The garden is open Monday-Friday. There is no fee and all are welcome to come and try their hand at growing plants, vegetables or fruit. It is also accessible for people with language needs and disabilities.
