We’ve now completed weeks 2 & 3 of Autumn in Action and our Neighbourhood Engagement team have been out in our communities, delivering a wide variety of events and activities for our residents.
From coffee mornings and work clubs to raising awareness about testicular cancer and delivering training sessions, the team have worked to engage residents and tenants across Tameside and Manchester in making improvements to their communities.
Recently, over 30 of our residents in Ashton attended the Oddballs Foundation event at Ashton United Football Club to help raise awareness of testicular cancer in the area. The Neighbourhood Engagement team helped to promote and facilitate the event and purchased the raffle prizes for the night.
On Mondays there is also the Work Club at the OBA Millennium Centre in Oldham, from 12pm-2pm, which everyone is welcome to attend to get support with their job searches.
Last Monday, our Baker House office hosted a First Aid Skills course with nine attendees from various local voluntary projects. These will also be running throughout next year for anyone who would like to attend.
The Tameside Work Club (TACE) occurs on Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and 12pm and supports people with CV writing, job searches and practicing interview skills. All are welcome to use the facilities for free.
A weekly brunch at Newton Hub, Hyde offers residents a hot meal and the opportunity to socialise with others. The brunch is on every Tuesday from 10am-2pm. Meals cost £3 and all are welcome to drop in.
The Sewing and Employment group at Holy Trinity Community Centre, Ashton, meets on Wednesday from 9.30am-11.30am and and 1pm-3pm. This exciting course gives attendees the chance to not only develop their sewing skills, but look at employment possibilities through Oldham Coliseum Theatre. Currently, the course is full and has a waiting list.
The group are now working with the Wardrobe team at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. The 13 week programme will include using designs to make the costumes for a 2020 production of Wuthering Heights.
The Neighbourhood Engagement team delivered a Food Hygiene Level 2 accredited course at our Ashton office on Wednesday. All nine residents and local volunteers passed the qualification on the day. There are other dates available throughout 2020 for anyone who is interested in attending.
Elsewhere, the Latifi Hands Creative English group meet on Wednesdays in Oldham. The group gives attendees the chance to practice their English together and improve their skills.
To round off the week, every Friday night is Bingo night at Newton Hub, Hyde, from 6.30pm-8.30pm. All are welcome to join in. Grab your dabbers and enjoy 6 games of Bingo and refreshments for just £5!
Other activities across the area include: environmental group activities, arts and crafts activities, community meetings and resident consultations.
