Residents proudly wore three lions on their shirts to support England’s Lionesses as they finished second at the Fifa Women’s World Cup final against Spain on Sunday.
Residents at Eliot Gardens, Jigsaw’s Extra Care scheme in Wigan, have been avidly following the lionesses history-making matches and decorated the scheme with the flags of each participating country.
They each took part in a range of games after watching the tense final and played a round of seated football with two sides battling it out against each other.
At St Andrews House, our Extra Care Scheme in Mapperley, Nottingham, residents and colleagues also roared in support of the Lionesses for their inspiring performance on the pitch.
Jigsaw’s Bridges Team organised an arts and craft session with residents at Ruffley House so they could decorate their very own lioness masks and England flags. The session was an amazing opportunity to discuss how far women’s football has come and was even topped off by singing football songs.
Despite finishing in second place, our Lionesses were still victorious as they became the first England team in almost six decades to reach the World Cup final and have now inspired a new generation of women and girls to play football.
