Residents have been moving into Jigsaw’s latest development, Haven House in Ashton, which provides accommodation to people who have experienced homelessness.
The development, part of the Rough Sleepers Accommodation Programme, is made up of 23 purpose-built, self-contained and furnished apartments with four key workers on-site who work with residents to tackle barriers leading to homelessness.
While Haven House is not a forever home, it will support residents in taking the next steps to find permanent accommodation and will also help them positively integrate into the community. Our team will also work with several other departments to provide residents support with home maintenance, budgeting and finances, wellbeing, life skills and relationships.
One resident said: “Living here has changed everything for me. I love the peaceful, calm environment and also being able to cook and eat healthy food – not something you can do when you are sleeping rough or just have a bed for the night. I’ve got a great relationship with my keyworker and if there are any problems they are dealt with quickly. I feel very safe and secure. I’ve got a focus and a plan now. I’m really thankful for this opportunity.”
Ursula Ralph, our Operations Manager – Housing First, said: “We have worked closely with our development team and Tameside Council on all aspects of this scheme, and it has been such a buzz to see residents’ reactions to their beautiful new homes. We will be getting the residents involved and doing lots of learning to ensure that Haven House, along with similar projects, give residents the best possible chance to make real changes in their lives and move away from homelessness for good.”
