Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement teams put on a whole host of trick or treats for spooktacular Halloween events across our neighbourhoods.
More than 70 adults and children attended the popular annual event in Dukinfield at the hub, which was organised by volunteers from The Peoples Community Dukinfield and officer John McGlynn.
They celebrated receiving £3,500 from the Jigsaw Foundation in spooky style with scary story telling, Halloween themed arts and crafts and food for all. The group will also use the money to improve the environment, green spaces and manage the RHS award winning community garden as well as a lunch club and a range of family friendly seasonal events.
At Crumpsall Primary school, officer Tanjua Patel helped around 40 children get involved in Halloween decorations and carving pumpkins as well as enjoying light snacks.
Pumpkin painting was on the cards at Miles Platting library with officer Gemma Bennett, as well as a spooky mask-making and face-painting event, with food provided.
At Holy Trinity Community Centre in Ashton, 60 children and their families took part in a fancy dress competition, enjoyed a Halloween buffet and took away lots of treats including a pumpkin to carve at home, all organised by officer Minaz Aslam.
Joining in the fearsome fun were families from Netherfield in Nottingham who took part in the pumpkin carving event run by officer Martin Curtis at the St George’s Centre.
Working with the newly formed Hazelhurst Community Garden Group in Tameside, our officers Gemma Batchelor and Tanuja Patel organised crafts, games, face painting, food and prizes for the best Halloween costume, at the Hazelhurst Hub.
In Chorley, two monster craft sessions at Buttermere Community Centre and Coppull Methodist Church were arranged by officer Tracy Townson, where 65 children had a frightfully fun time. Packed lunches were provided along with Halloween goodie packs.
More than 120 children and 70 adults got into the Halloween spirit at The Neighbourhood Project Community Centre in Harpurhey, Manchester with a disco and prizes for the best costumes, all organised by officer Julie Fraser.
In Stalybridge a ‘Hallowclean’ event, led by officer Deanne Clayton, attracted more than 50 youngsters and adults who joined forces to do a spooky clean sweep (litter pick) of the local area. This was followed by lots of music, food, fun and prizes at the community centre.
Residents from our extra care and Housing for Over 55s schemes Hunters Court and Beatrix House in Dukinfield held a Halloween Party to celebrate being awarded £2,300 from the Jigsaw Foundation.
The funding will be used to buy outdoor furniture for the communal garden and for residents to continue with the regular timetable of fun activities as well as events throughout the year including a summer garden party and Christmas party.
All the events coincided with half-term activities including the Miles Platting bike library project where residents can get their bikes checked and repaired, multi-sports coaches to get families moving as part of an on-going physical activity project and in Crumpsall, children got stuck in learning to cook healthy food.
