Shaping Careers in Tameside

Jigsaw’s Employment Team (JET) joined forces with Jigsaw Support’s ‘Support to Succeed’ team to share career and employability advice at the Tameside Spring Jobs Fair.

They held a stall at the fair which took place at Dukinfield Town Hall with over 800 local people attending.

The teams promoted current vacancies and how to apply for them, careers with JET, Jigsaw Support employability services, our training calendar and different programmes available to residents including work clubs.

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team also sponsored the event once again to help with the running costs.

Sarah Jamieson, Head of Economy, Employment & Skills at Tameside MBC, said: “We had a record-breaking turnout with over 800 people attending and it was a really positive event for meeting potential candidates.”

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement team also continued to help residents upskill as they held their first Mental Health First Aid training session at The Dukinfield Hub last week.

A total of 13 people attended the one-day course which provided an in-depth understanding of mental health and taught how to recognise signs of mental health disorders and how to support people who may be struggling.

John McGlynn, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, organised the training with provider Manchester First Aid Training, led by Jo-Anne Moore, and has arranged three more sessions to be delivered in Tameside in 2024.

John said: “We listened to our residents who had expressed an interest in learning more about the subject of mental health and organised a new offer for residents and volunteers to learn together.

“Everyone who attended said how much they had learned in one day. The qualification gained will help them enhance their CV’s and prove that they have achieved a good working knowledge of the subject.”

Resident Helen Lomas said: “The content was well laid out and informative with some surprising statistics. It was delivered in a compassionate way and despite the heavy topics Jo-Anne brought fun and a bright sense of cheer to balance it all out.”
