Last week, the Mayor of Tameside was joined by our Neighbourhoods team, local councillors and residents for a special ribbon cutting ceremony as we officially opened our new Oasis Broadoak Hub in Ashton.
Last year our Neighbourhood Plans team funded two kitchen areas for the hub, and this year, it has finally been able to become fully operational.
To assist with making the hub a sustainable and successful community centre, our Jigsaw Foundation has awarded £10,670 in funding in 2023. This financial assistance has already helped towards providing a range of equipment from outdoor play supplies for young children, IT equipment, gardening materials, music lessons and sensory activities, alongside various classes and essential furniture. The Hub also operates a foodbank and funding will also go towards helping the group run this.
A Community Worker was employed to deliver the classes which included a craft group, mother and baby sessions and creative English training classes.
The Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Tafheen Sharif, and Councillor Mike Glover met with Donna Kelly, our Group Director of Neighbourhoods and Support, Ivan Wright, our Assistant Director – Neighbourhoods, and our Jigsaw Foundation, Neighbourhood Plans and Hit Squad teams as we unveiled the new community hub.
Councillor Sharif said: “I believe families having access to this hub is absolutely fundamental in this day and age and now we have this facility it’s going to help families, mothers, fathers and single parents who are raising children and hopefully benefit their mental health.”
The hub now has four regular volunteers and around 60 local residents attending each week, with at least 40 attendees being Jigsaw Homes residents.
