Lesson Learned as Pupils Take Part in Big Seed Sow

Pupils from Lyndhurst Community Primary School joined volunteers of The People’s Community Dukinfield to take part in the RHS’ Big Seed Sow.

The Big Seed Sow is a new community growing campaign designed to get schools, groups and individuals sowing and sharing seeds.

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement officer John McGlynn helped to organise the green-fingered morning and a total of 30 children from the Year 2 class got stuck in to learn about where seeds come from and how to look after plants.

Laura Chapman, Teacher and Key Stage 1 Lead, said: “The volunteers including Joe and Sheila helped all the children plant seeds including calendulas, sweet peas and nasturtiums. We’ve left them in the community garden greenhouse so that Joe and the volunteers can look after them over the Easter holidays for us.

“Joe very kindly donated lots of plants for our school garden too and the children love visiting the garden to learn and develop their skills.”
