New funding for Motiv8 to support people back into work

Motiv8 has secured funds totalling £485,000 from the Department of Work and Pensions’ Flexible Support Fund to provide a much-needed lifeline for 500 people who need extra support to get back on track and into work.

Motiv8 is an innovative support programme led by Jigsaw Support (part of Jigsaw Homes Group) across Greater Manchester that works with Jobcentres and key stakeholders to provide tailored one-to-one support to help people overcome their barriers, achieve positive outcomes and move them towards training, job search and employment. It is delivered in partnership with four other housing providers and two specialist partners.

Sue Morris, Senior Programme Manager from the DWP said: “JCP Work Coaches are pleased they will be able to tell their customers about the Motiv8 programme and use it as part of the support they are able to offer to help more people back into work.“

Donna Kelly, Group Director Neighbourhoods and Support at Jigsaw, said:

“This funding will allow us to continue to deliver Motiv8 for another 12 months to those furthest from the labour market and to continue essential work for those with multiple complex needs, building on our learning over the past six years.

“For thousands of people in Greater Manchester, ill-health, addiction, a criminal record, homelessness, domestic abuse or isolation can feel like an insurmountable barrier to joining the workforce. The Motiv8 team will support adults with complex issues to get back on track and overcome challenges. Ultimately we work with them to boost their confidence and skills so they are better positioned to move towards work.

“As part of the Motiv8 programme, a key worker supports clients every step of the way through an individual action plan and tailored interventions, ensuring their needs are met. This may include support around benefits, health issues, mental wellbeing and addictions, and generally providing a secure foundation for building confidence and a new life.

“It’s not an overnight change. It takes time for someone to believe in themselves enough to address their barriers and be ready for training, job search and employment. Our programme encourages people to focus on a few goals at a time. It’s a good way to develop skills and confidence before taking the next steps.”

Transforming lives! – Feedback from JCP

“I have had nothing but positive feedback from people I have referred. One homeless client had a distrust of all organisations and felt let down by all previous agencies. With Motiv8’s help, solutions were found and ultimately he was rehoused.”

Hope for the future!

“My life had no meaning. My key worker has been amazing – always there when I needed them to give me hope and confidence. I never thought, at the age of 50, I would have the confidence to go to college and better myself. Motiv8 has been fantastic for me.”

A life saver!

“Motiv8 has been literally life saving. Having you in my corner has made everything a lot less daunting, so thank you for doing an amazing job and actually caring.”
