Jigsaw Foundation funds canal boat experience opportunity

Jigsaw Foundation has granted funding to The East Manchester Community Boat Project (EMCBP) to provide free boat training to Jigsaw residents for the next two years.

Any Jigsaw Homes resident aged 18 years or over can take part and the training on offer ranges from one day (4 hours max) up 25 days to enjoy the full experience.

EMCBP is hosting its a series of taster events where anyone who’s interested can find out more, meet the team and even have a go at steering their community canal narrow boat.

It is about having fun, getting out of the house, and learning some new skills. If you enjoy the experience there is the option to join as a volunteer and help crew the boat that takes out disabled and disadvantaged children & adults free of charge throughout the year.
There is no obligation to attend more than one day (max 4 hrs). Participants are free at all times to decide how much you want to learn or the activities you wish to undertake.

The project operates from Portland Basin in Ashton-Under-Lyne. The taster events are taking place at various times between 11am and 4 pm:

  • Monday 26 July
  • Sunday 1 August
  • Saturday 7 August
  • Monday 9 August

If you’re interested in attending any of the sessions, please call 07711 268763, or visit www.emcbp.org.uk to book a slot for a guided visit.
