Keeping Tameside Tidy

Residents took to the streets of Ashton armed with bin liners and litter pickers to take part in a community clean up day along with Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team.

The initiative was led by GMP and involved other partner agencies including Ashton Pioneer Homes, Tameside Council, Holy Trinity Community Centre and Holy Trinity Primary School.

As the area is a hot spot for fly-tipping, skips were placed on designated streets to fill up with rubbish. The Hit Squad was also on hand to help and Nigel Harrop, Jigsaw’s Regional Supervisor – Caretaking, even managed to fill and dispose of three cages of litter.

Minaz Aslam, Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, said, “It was great to see the community gather and get involved. I would like to thank my team members Gemma Batchelor, Tanuja Patel, Carolyn Alston, as well as Ben Buckley from our Neighbourhood Safety team for supporting me – and a special thank you to the Hit Squad for their assistance.

“Thank you also to Jigsaw’s ‘King of the Cage’ Nigel Harrop and his team who managed to fill and dispose of three full cages – a job well done.”
