Litter-ally Making Tameside Tidy

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood team partnered up with Councillor Kaleel Khan and Manchester Alternative School Provision to organise a litter pick with young people through our Litter Hub in Tameside.

The event brought together students from various backgrounds, including those who had faced difficulties in mainstream education, and provided an opportunity for them to clean their environment and instil a sense of responsibility and pride in their local area.

Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Minaz Aslam and Councillor Khan organised the day in the Holy Trinity neighbourhood, alongside community volunteers and 11 young people.

They each worked in pairs and collected eight large bags of litter from parks, streets, and public spaces, transforming their surroundings while learning about the impact of waste on the environment.

Through Jigsaw’s Litter Hub at the Holy Trinity Community Centre, we provide essential equipment such as litter pickers, high-visibility vests, and gloves and offer a space where volunteers can gather, collect equipment and get to know each other.

Councillor Khan said: “Seeing the community come together like this has been inspiring. It’s not just about cleaning up litter—it’s about building connections, taking pride in where we live, and creating a better environment for everyone

“With the support of Jigsaw Homes, we’ve been able to provide the necessary resources and create a Litter Pick Hub where residents can gather and engage. The response has been overwhelming, and it really shows how much we care about making Holy Trinity a better place. This campaign is just the beginning.”
