Residents from the Jigsaw Homes Housing for Over 55’s scheme Kendal House and children from Gorse Hall Primary School have cooked up mouth-watering meals through Jigsaw’s intergenerational cooking classes in Stalybridge.
Neighbourhood Engagement Officers Vikki Barry and Carolyn Aston worked alongside TMBC, Active Tameside and Wi-Fi North West to deliver the classes where residents spent the morning making tandoori wraps using locally sourced ingredients.
The classes, which will run every week for six weeks, aim to break down the barriers between young and older people, allowing for conversations and shared interests to develop.
Each week the group will learn how to make a new dish and will also grow herbs to eventually take home and cook with.
Vikki Barry said, “The group really enjoyed the session. One child even said they preferred the cooking class over playing pool, which was most definitely a compliment!”
