Cooking Up Tasty Projects Across Tameside

Cooking Up Tasty Projects Across Tameside

Jigsaw Homes partnered with Tameside Council to serve up tasty Cooking on a Budget and Volunteer Training sessions for residents.

The Jigsaw part-funded project trained volunteers to organise sessions showing how to prepare nourishing and cheap meals using basic ingredients that are available from foodbanks, community pantries and home cupboards.

Residents were also shown how to use slow cookers as a more cost effective way of cooking food. Dishes prepared included lentil dahl, savoury chicken, chilli, cauliflower and chickpea curry, vegetable hotpot and macaroni cheese.

The sessions took place at Smallshaw Hurst Community Action Group, Mossley Community Centre, Stalybridge Baptist Church, the People’s Community Dukinfield and the Rough Diamonds in Ashton and were delivered by Neighbourhood Engagement Officers Minaz Aslam, John McGlynn, Carolyn Alston and Deanne Clayton.

The team will continue to fund additional cooking and volunteer sessions following high demand and popularity among residents.
