Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan Mubarak

During Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, many Muslims will take part in a period of fasting between the hours of sunrise and sunset until the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr.

This year, Eid is likely to take place on 21 April depending on the sighting of the moon.

Fasting during Ramadan is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. These five principles are believed to be compulsory acts ordered by God. The other pillars are faith, prayer, charity and making pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

Minaz Aslam, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, put together 10 food parcels and delivered them to families observing the month of Ramadan in our supported accommodation scheme Gibson Terrace, Ashton.

The parcels included rice, pasta, lentils, and chapattis and aimed to share the gift of food while also supporting those living in temporary accommodation.

Resident Nighat Pareveen said: “This will be very helpful and very thoughtful because it is food that we would normally eat as a family.”
