Curtain Up In Dukinfield

The Peoples Community Dukinfield stepped into the limelight and gave a show stopping performance of their self-penned poem ‘In Dukinfield’ at Oldham Coliseum in February.

Resident Shelia Caldecott wrote the poem with a social message about the struggles people in surrounding neighbourhoods have been facing, while also celebrating the community group’s achievements since it was formed last year with the support of Jigsaw Homes’ Neighbourhood Engagement Officer John McGlynn.

The Jigsaw Foundation provided funding to the Oldham Coliseum which helped to support the performance project, allowing residents to get involved in cultural arts activities and give them a voice.

Sheila said: “It was an amazing experience and we as a group are proud of what we have achieved together as we have never done anything like this before.

“Being able to share our experience of Dukinfield, the struggles people have faced and are experiencing during the pandemic and now the cost of living crisis and what it means to us and the community.”

John McGlynn said, “The group have created something very special indeed.  With the help of Oldham Coliseum’s outreach department, they have enabled them to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences creating art to reach a wider audience beyond Tameside.”
