A new exercise class to help Jigsaw residents get fit, combat social isolation and help their mental health has begun in Ashton.
The 10-week programme has been funded by Jigsaw and organised by Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Minaz Aslam. It takes place at the Holy Trinity Church and Community Centre.
It follows a consultation with the local residents in the area, who said there was interest and a need for an exercise class, and more than 20 people attended the first one.
Last week, some of the women who attend and volunteer at the Community Centre were also invited to see an innovative theatre performance “I am no Bird” hosted at Droylsden Library, organised by Minaz.
The piece was a celebration of the creativity of women and was created by Stute Theatre with a modern take on the Bronte story. For many who attended this was their first experience of watching a live performance and it proved very popular, with many saying they were keen to go again.
